CLINICAL GENETICS

Optimal Care for Patients with Hereditary Diseases and their Family Members

The section of Clinical Genetics in the Department of Human Genetics provides high-quality, innovative, and personalized genetic care for patients and relatives. We are responsible for the clinical assessment of patients with complex genetic issues, including diagnostics and counseling.
In 2021, we provided clinical genetic care to more than 8,000 patients and their families at Amsterdam UMC and outpatient clinics throughout the country, including two annual clinics in the Dutch Caribbean.

“We strive to continuously improve our genetic care with compassion, and to teach all medical professionals about the rapid changes in clinical genetics.” – Dr. Mieke van Haelst
